The physical miracles of Prophet Muhammad

The physical miracles of Prophet Muhammad

The physical miracles are among the greatest proofs of Messenger of Allah’s prophethood as they are experiences beyond the normal range of events which all other people are not able to perform. The physical miracles which prove Messenger of Allah’s prophethood are many and various. They include:

1-The splitting of the moon

Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “The people of Mecca asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to show them a miracle, so he showed them the moon split into two halves, such that they could see the mountain of Hira between them” [related by Al-Bukhari] Concerning this, Allah (Glorified is He) says, The Hour has drawn near and the moon has split. But if they see a sign they turn away, saying ‘There is no end to this witchcraft!’ Surah Al-Qamar: 1-2

2-The crying of the palm tree trunk of Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him)

Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported, “There was a tree trunk which the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to stand beside while giving the sermon. When a pulpit was put into position, we heard the trunk give out a howling sound like the sound of a camel which is ten months pregnant. This continued until the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came down from the pulpit and placed his hand on it, resulting in it becoming quiet. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, It cried because it missed listening to the remembrance of Allah related by Al-Bukhari

3-Innate matter obeyed Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) and said greetings of peace to the Prophet

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) told the Companions about a man from Bani Amer “Who came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), who had palm trees as well as other types of trees. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) called one of them [the trees]. Consequently, it came forward when it was prostrating, sitting up, and prostrating until it reached him. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) then ordered it, saying, “Return to your position.” So it returned to its position. The man then said, “By Allah, I will not deny anything you say after this at all!” related by At-Tabarani, Ibn Habban and Al-Baihaqi Jabeer ibn Samorah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, Truly, I remember the stone in Mecca that used to greet me before I became a Prophet, and I still remember it now related by Muslim Abdullah ibn Masoud said, “I used to walk through Mecca and see a particular stone; the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not pass by it not even once but he heard it call him, saying, “Peace on you Oh Messenger of Allah”

4-The food and a stone in the hand of Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) glorifies Allah

Abdullah ibn Masoud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I was travelling with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and water became scarce. Consequently, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Bring what water is left [to me].” So they brought a container filled with a little water and he placed his hand inside it, then said, “Come to the blessed ablution water; blessings are from Allah.” We saw water flowing from between his fingers. We used to also hear food glorify Allah when he ate. [related by Al-Bukhari] Abu Dhar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) wearing a ring and with a stone in his hand, both glorifying Allah. Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali were with us and they, as well as all the others nearby, heard them [the ring and the stone] glorify Allah” related by At-Tabarani and Al-Bazzar

5-The multiplication of food, drink and the blessings of Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him)

One such example is the meal from which one hundred people ate. Samarah ibn Jundab (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “When we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) a dish of meat was brought to him.” He continued, “So he (peace be upon him) ate from it and the people around him ate from it. They did not stop eating from it until just before the Dhuhr prayer, and then another group of people came after them [to eat from it]. Then a man said to him, ‘If this came from the earth, it would not be possible [to feed all these people], but it is [clearly] a blessing from the heavens’” related by Ahmed While they were digging the trench before the Battle of the Ahzab [Tribes], Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) noticed that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was very hungry, so he asked if he could leave and he went to his house and slaughtered a sheep. His wife ground four handfuls of barley. Then he returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and, quietly, told him what he had done, asking him to come [to his house] with a small number of Companions. But how could the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) eat and his Companions around him were hungry?! So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) called all those that were in the trench, about one thousand, and invited them to eat, praying that Allah would bless the food. Consequently, all of them ate from the food to their full, and fed those of their neighbours who were around them. After all this, the [amount of] food that was left was the same as before anyone ate it. related by Al-Bukhari: The Chapter of Battles During the battle of Tabuk, Mu’adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said, He (the Messenger, peace be upon him) took small handfuls of water from the spring (the spring of Tabuk, which contained only a little water), a little at a time until a small amount of spring water had been gathered. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) washed his face and hands with the water. After that he returned the water [he had used] to the spring, and as a result a lot of water poured from the spring and people drank from it. Next the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, ‘Oh Mu’adh, if you live long enough, you will see this water producing many gardens full of plants’ related by Muslim Abdullah ibn Masoud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “We saw water pour forth from between the fingers of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)” related by Al-Bukhari

6-Prophet Muhammed’s saliva cures the sick

On the day of the battle of Khaybar, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asked about Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), saying, ‘Where is Ali ibn Abu Talib?’ The Companions replied, ‘He has problems with his eyes, Oh Messenger of Allah.’ The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) then said, ‘Send someone to him to bring him to me.’ When he arrived, the Messenger of Allah spit into his eyes and supplicated Allah for him, and as a result he was cured as though they had never hurt him related by Al-Bukhari Later, Ali ibn Abu Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), talking about this, said, “I did not suffer from any eye infection after the Prophet (peace be upon him) spat in my eye” related by Ahmed It has also been narrated that he “spat on the Companion Al-Harith ibn Aws, who was consequently cured. That was the day Ka’b ibn Al-Ashraf An-Nadari was killed. He was one of the Jews that were the worst enemies of Islam. He insulted [the honour of] the Muslim women and had ridiculed the Messenger of Allah, [inciting the Messenger of Allah’s enemies to attack him]” related by Al-Bukhari: The Chapter on Battles We also have Abdullah ibn Ateek (may Allah be pleased with him) who told us about the Prophet, when Abdullah had broken his leg during the Battle of Khaybar. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Lay his leg out.” So we lay his leg out and the Messenger of Allah wiped over it. After that, it was as though I had never had any problems with it at all” related by Al-Bukhari

7- Signs that were apparent from Prophet Muhammed’s hands

Abu Zaid ibn Akhtab (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “The Prophet (peace be upon him) wiped my face and supplicated Allah for me.” Azrah said, “He lived for one hundred and twenty years after that, with nothing but white hair on his head” related by At-Tirmidhi Jabir ibn Samarah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Young boys used to pass by the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to wipe one cheek of some, and wipe the two cheeks of others. I passed by him and he wiped my cheek. As a result, the cheek that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had wiped was always brighter looking than the other cheek” related by At-Tabarani

8-Prophet Muhammed’s miracles with animals

One such example was the slow camel that became fast after the Prophet (peace be upon him) supplicated Allah about it. It was the camel of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him); it was slow so the Prophet (peace be upon him) supplicated Allah for it and consequently it could out-race the other camels. Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) told us about this, saying, ‘I went out to a battle with the Prophet (peace be upon him), and my camel was very slow, causing me difficulties. The Prophet (peace be upon him) came to me and said, “What is the matter?” I said, “My camel is very slow, causing me difficulties, and it lags behind the others.” Consequently, he prodded the camel and then told me, “Ride it.” I therefore rode it, and everyone saw me dash forward, ahead of the Prophet (peace be upon him)’ related by Al-Bukhari Moreover, a camel cried and complained to the Prophet (peace be upon him) when one day he entered one of the gardens of the Ansari [Helpers of Medinah]. The camel went to the Prophet (peace be upon him), groaned and started to shed tears. When it saw the Prophet, it groaned and started to shed tears. The Prophet (peace be upon him) wiped it and therefore it became calm. Then he (peace be upon him) said, ‘Who is the owner of this camel?’ A young girl from the Ansari came towards him and said, ‘It is mine, Oh Prophet.’ The Prophet told her, ‘Should you not fear Allah with regards to this animal that Allah gave you control over? It has complained to me that you underfeed it and overwork it’ related by Muslim Similarly, a bird went to the Prophet, complaining. Abdullah ibn Masoud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported, We were travelling with the Prophet (peace be upon him) and we passed by a tree in which there were two red chicks, so we took them. The mother bird went to the Prophet (peace be upon him), howling. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ‘Who upset this bird by taking her chicks?’ We replied, ‘We did.’ He (peace be upon him) told them, ‘Return them to it [the mother bird]’ related by Al-Hakim and At-Tabarani Furthermore, the leg of the poisoned cooked sheep spoke to the Prophet (peace be upon him), warning him that it was poisoned. This was when the Jew Zainab bint Al-Harith gave the Prophet a grilled sheep on which she had put poison. She had asked, “What part of the meat does he [the Prophet] like the most? The Companions had replied, “The Leg.” So she put a lot of poison on the leg of the cooked sheep. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) took hold of the leg of the cooked sheep, the leg told him that it was poisoned, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) spat out what he had eaten. The Prophet (peace be upon him) then said, ‘Bring the Jews to me.’ They were brought to him and the Prophet (peace be upon him) told them, ‘Will you tell the truth to me if I ask you about something?’ They replied, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘Did you put poison on this cooked sheep?’ They replied, ‘Yes.’ He asked, ‘What made you do that?’ They replied, ‘We wanted to see; if you are a liar, we would be free of you, and if you are a Prophet, the poison would not harm you’ related by Al-Bukhari

9- Some of Prophet Muhammed’s miracles in medicine which have been proven by recent scientific facts

One example of this is what the Prophet (peace be upon him) told us when he advised us how to correctly remove microbes and viruses from a container which a dog drank from in order not to catch the deadly disease of rabies or other illnesses. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, Clean your containers if a dog licked from them by cleaning them seven times, the first one being with dust related by Muslim In another narration the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, If a dog licks from a container, wash it seven times, and an eighth time with dust related by Muslim Doctors have clarified the secret in using dust in particular in the journal “General Well-Being”, in which was written an article dealing with: [The wisdom of washing seven times, the first time being with dust: The dog’s viruses are very small and minute. It is well-known that the smaller the size of the microbe, the more the surface of the virus attaches and clings to the walls of the container. A dog’s saliva is made up of viruses that are present in any strip of saliva, and the role of the dust is for the surface of the dust particles to absorb the microbes, due to surface adhesion forces, thereby pulling it from the container] Global Arabic Encyclopedia: Second edition Similarly, Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) also outlined for us the best procedure to follow when a fly falls into a container of liquid, saying, If a fly falls into a container [of liquid] of any one of you, immerse all the fly into the liquid and then take it out of the drink; on one of its wings is the disease and on the other wing is the medicine [for this disease] related by Al-Bukhari In another narration Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) said, If a fly falls into a container [of liquid] of any of you, immerse it into the liquid and then take it out of the drink; on one of its wings is a disease and on the other the cure [for the disease]. A poison affects anything first, before the cure takes place related by Ahmed [The results of research and experiments in the present time prove the validity of what the Prophet (peace be upon him) told us in this hadith. In 1949, two English scientists, Comsi and Farmer, and Swiss scientists, Waruth, Ithlenger and Blantz, were able to isolate a new antibiotic from a fungus that belongs to the family of fungi that live on flies. They called it Anyateen. This antibiotic has a strong effect/is strong against on the germs (both gram negative and gram positive) like typhoid, cholera, dysentery and other illnesses] Examples of Scientific Miracles in the Prophet’s Sunnah: Abdul Hameed Tahmaz The hadith stated what the previous generation did not know concerning the major role the fly plays in transferring illnesses. This indicates the scientific miracle in the Prophet’s hadith. Who taught the Prophet (peace be upon him) this?! It is Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Despite Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) being illiterate, he informed us at his time about some scientific and medical facts which have been confirmed by modern science at our time. What is the proof for this? Clarify your answer by stating examples.hhh
