Sending prayers upon Prophet Muhammad when mentioning his name

Sending prayers upon Prophet Muhammad when mentioning his name

Allah orders the believers to send prayers upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He (Glorified is He) says, {Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings on him and ask for complete peace and safety for him} [Surah Al-Ahzab: 56] And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) clarified for us the benefits of sending prayers on him (peace be upon him): [related by At-Tirmidhi; graded as good by Al-Albani] The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) described those who do not send prayers on him when his name is mentioned as being miserly. He (peace be upon him) said, [related by Ahmed] A Muslim is hard-hearted if he hears someone mention the Messenger of Allah’s name but is too miserly with himself to send prayers on the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). Ahmed related that a Companion once asked him (peace be upon him), <‘Oh Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), I often send prayers upon you; so how many prayers should I send upon you?’ The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied, ‘If you like (keep doing this), but if you send more prayers upon me, it will be better for you.’ The Companion said, ‘Half (of my supplications)?’ The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, ‘If you like, but if you send more it will be better for you.’ He said, ‘Two-thirds (of my supplications)?’ The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied, ‘If you like, but if you send more it will be better for you.’ The Companion then said, ‘Should I make all my supplications sending prayers upon you?’ The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied, ‘This will be sufficient for your worries and make you have your sins forgiven’> [related by Ahmed] In this way, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) encouraged the people to often send prayers upon him (peace be upon him) and made clear the great benefits one receives by doing this.
