Prophet Muhammad carrying out trade for Khadija bint Khuwaylid when he was 25 years old

Carrying out trade for Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her)

When Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) reached twenty-five years of age, he carried out trade with As-Sa’ib Al-Makhzumy. It was a good partnership in which both sides were fair to the other and there were no disputes between the two parties.

Because of this partnership, Khadijah bint Khawaylid heard about Prophet Muhammed’s truthful and trustworthy character. Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) was a respectable and wealthy trader. She used to hire men to carry out trade with her money and give them a portion of the profit.

Quraysh was a tribe that had much experience in trade, and when Khadijah heard about Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) and how truthful and trustworthy he was and what noble manners he had, she sent for him. She asked him (peace be upon him) to go to Sham to do trade there with her money, and she offered to give him more than other traders used to give at the time. A young servant of hers called Maysarah would also accompany him. Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) accepted her offer and left for Sham with her servant Maysarah. At Sham, Prophet Muhammed sold the goods that he had brought from Mecca and bought what he wanted of other goods. After he (peace be upon him) returned to Mecca and sold the goods he had brought from Sham, he gave Khadijah double the amount of money he had taken from her.
